Terrific Toddlers

Transitioning your infant to the Young Toddler group is an exciting time.  As they approach their first birthday, we will be working towards preparing them for this big move.  At Bright Futures Child Care, we recognize the individual needs of each of our children.  We will be working alongside the parents, being developmentally appropriate in our decision to make this move with your child.  Some of the guidelines are as follows:

Eating table food
Using Sippy Cups
Sitting in chairs at small table
Beginning to use pacifier/bottle less
Beginning to limit naptimes with the goal of one PM (but keep in mind that some children need more)
Walking introduced

Our toddlers are provided with Breakfast, Lunch and 2 snacks.  Some parents choose to send in additional food while they adjust and we will try to accommodate special dietary needs.  Additional food is not required as we will provide the necessary dietary components according to the CACFP.

Our older toddlers are provided their own mat, however, most of our youngest toddlers will have with their own crib as they are not developmentally ready for this big of a change at first.  We will let you know of their progress as they move toward naptime on the mats.

Excitedly, toddlers is where our curriculum begins.  Amber Lamb and Button Bear help us with our manners as we learn to say  "Thank you" and "Please"... which makes our Moms and Dads so very happy.  Miss Dorothy really likes that too!!

Toddlers are still developing their beginning language skills and for this reason we will work on number counting, colors, shapes, nursery rhymes, fun crafts, gross motor skills and letter names.  Our phonic sounds begin at our Nursery school level as most of our toddlers...even though we are aware that some of the toddlers have surprisingly mastered speech already.

Potty time:  We have special "Potty Charts" for our little ones as they begin the wonderful time of Potty training.  We work along side of parents and work with positive reinforcement... hopefully earning a sticker on our potty chart once we have "gone".

Outside time:  We have a wonderful playground that we enjoy daily, weather permitting.  This is the age we begin to  enjoy walks in the neighborhood.

Communication:  In toddlers, we begin sending home "Today at School" forms letting you know of your child's daily activities.
